The couple behind SON OF A BRAND AGENCY: "We believe people should buy clothing more consciously."

Dream Team Alert! Although, it could be a nightmare for some to work with your significant other. In this #supportyourlocals I'm featuring the story of Raquel Duvalois & Thomas van Boheemen and their agency: Son of a Brand. They represent clothing labels and focus on sales in fashion retail. Besides sales they adopted video and photography productions for some of the brands they represent as well. So creative! And they're a couple! How do work together as a team? You'll find out in this interview!

Can you tell me more about your (creative) business?
Raquel:
It's quite funny how Thomas and I met each other at a graphic school. Thomas found out quickly that sitting behind a computer wasn't really his thing, haha. After studying I immediately registered myself as a graphic designer to pursue a professional career. I managed to gain customers in the fields of fashion, events and also some artists. In 2016 Thomas and I decided to join forces and we created SOAB. Thomas takes care of sales and I take care of branding, which allows me to be creative. A year later, in 2017, we broadened the agency and added productions and look books to our list of services. I really love working on a project from start to end and this is what brings me most focus and energy

What are your passions and how would you like people to know or learn about them?

Fashion is our passion. We noticed that in this business the hard working independent retailer is having a hard time. The average consumer choses quick and easy mass production. That's why we love selling to independent stores. We believe people should buy clothing more consciously!

What's been the highlight of your career so far?
Every success the shopkeepers achieve with our brands is a highlight! And it's really awesome seeing people wearing the pieces from our collections in the street!

What does your average workday look like and are you happy with it? What would you like to improve about it?
Depending on the season, we have sales appointments. Besides those we are busy preparing photo shoots, fairs and finding new places to sell. We particularly love to participate in fairs or visit them. It's what we love most about our profession.

What are your favorite ways of taking good care of yourself?
Eating well is a must when you work a lot. So treating ourselves to a healthy dinner is something we enjoy. As an outlet we love to go to concerts or the theatre.

Do you have a favourite brand or a person you admire? What/who and why?

We love Scandinavian brands because they're clean and minimalistic. So you can imagine we love going to Copenhagen to get inspired by the city.

Do you like getting your photo taken? Got any tips for people who feel insecure about that?
Just be who you are, we live in a fake social media world right now. The best way to be different is to be yourself. Believe in the best person you can be, admire the person you are.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
Always visualize, everything is in your hands if you believe in it. I think in images. <3 Just like you Landa, haha!

What’s next for you? What are your aspirations or ambitions?

We work hard and sometimes it doesn’t feel like work, because we love our job! But we also need to learn how to relax a little more. We have a new family member Pixie! A little miniature pinscher. We take all the time we have with the little puppy! So much love in 2019.

What a nice interview! I totally agree with the part about buying mkre consciously. Not only you will have a more unique piece of clothing you also support someone in what they love. Very inspirational couple, keep up the good work!
